Desert Art Scene,
2001 / 2002 Biannual The Ron Chespak Paper Sculpture Gallery showcases the exquisite creations of an artist known for minimalist expressionism. He combines depth and composition with stark white subjects, strong vivid colors with graduated hues that culminate in art works that possess sophisticated elegance. Ron Chespak moves with ease between the world of art and the world of business and the influence of both are evident when one walks through the door of his gallery on the corner of North Palm Canyon and Tamarisk Road. The simple elegance of his works transports the viewer out of the frenetic world and afford one a moment of serenity and peace. His superb paper sculptures suggest fantastic landscapes and familiar city views. His forms are smooth and highly stylized. The contours are brilliant and command the eyes to focus and interpret the beauty that lies within. After a period of contemplation, it is apparent that one's first impression will be tempered by all the elements contained within his works of art, Chespak is meticulous and measured artist who combines simplicity with complexity succeeding in captivating his audience. The gallery's presence in the desert adds another dimension to the diverse tapestry of the fast growing local art scene. Chespak's graphic art background and training can be seen in his attention to controlling detail in a fastidious manner. It was during an early period in the business world that he created graphic campaigns for such companies as American Express, Mattel and Baskins Robbins. It was also during this period that he began to move between the fine art and commercial worlds. He needed to find a new direction to assuage his artistic needs and paper sculpture became his vehicle because it served his talents best. All of his finished pieces are hand-cut with 3-dimensional construction created from 100% acid-free archival quality Strathmore paper and encased in five-sided cast acrylic frames with beveled edges. That he is successful is affirmed by his being billed as Best in the West by Southwest Art Magazine and hailed as One of Today's Hottest Contemporary Artists by California Magazine. His commissioned covers include the covers for California Magazine's annual edition, Desert Art Scene Magazine's biannual edition, Orange County Magazine's annual edition and the Laguna Magazine's annual edition. In addition, was named the artist of the month at the Bloomingdales Home Store Art Gallery presented by California Homes Magazine. A commission that recently has intrigued Chespak is his work with Molly James on The Whimsical Verse of Olly-O, a children's book that is being reissued after thirty years. Captivated by the magical character from the book, Chespak created paper sculptures that colorfully bring them to life. The book is a must-have for every-ones library. The original music on the Read-Along CD that accompanies this book was composed by Hoyt Curtin, the man who composed the scores for the Flintstones, Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear. Following appearances by James and Chespak on radio and TV, they have had it said about them that "fun just happens to be their middle name." In consideration of the child in everyone, Chespak magnificently enlarged each Olly-O character to poster size. The lithographs and the book are featured at the artist's gallery. Never
static in his art he is continuously creating new work. As the demand
for his art increases, it can be found in some of the finest homes,
businesses and libraries in the world. Yet this very genuine, warm and
easygoing man remains in awe of his success. When asked to comment about
his work, he says, "With all the craziness in the world, my work
is one nice think to look at." |
