News, June 3rd 1994 by Staff Editor The old adage "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is just not true in this case as evidenced by Ron Chespak, former advertising agency art director turned fine artist. "selling my art in Laguna has always been a dream of mine and now it's come true," says Chespak. With an impressive career background, numerous awards, being published in a variety of Art Annuals and now original art sales; Ron Chespak can finally consider himself an artist. He is a graphic designer, a draftsmen and a sculptor. His wall hung paper sculptures combine depth and composition with the use of stark white subjects, strong vivid color and graduated hues that emerge with textures of sophisticated elegance. There is always something new and different to see in his work. He is a meticulous and measured fine artist whose subject matter is as simple as it is complex and always seems to appeal to a wide audience. He continues, "the switch from creating advertising art to original art was simple for me. My work has always been creating with the idea that it was good enough for framing. The only difference is now I'm not the only one that thinks so." His Limited Editions are considered quite unique. To create one finished piece the artist combines several state-of-the-art processes involving two separarte photographs; one for the outside shadow and one for the inside. When parts of the photographs are combined, the resulting finished print provides what could be termed as "better than real shadowing". It would be impossible to achieve this natural effect in a one-step, single photographic process. A Laguna Beach resident of 12 years, Ron was born on January 14, 1960 in Newark, New Jersey to parents Mary and Walt. He is quoted repeatedly in early childhood as saying, "I'm making something." All through high school art was always his main priority even in between being class president and as he puts it "somehow making it through football and track." It was after looking at a copy of Communication Arts Magazine given to him by his art teacher in high school that Ron knew he was going to be a graphic designer. Moving with his family to California in 1978, Ron began working towards his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design at Cal State University, at Fullerton which he later received in 1982. He has always worked in his chosen field. Upon graduation he accepted a position as Art Director for Trainex/Medcom, Inc. which consisted of designing both instructional and marketing materials for the world's largest producer of multimedia education for the health care profession and recipient of two Emmy Awards for the winning television series, The Body Human and Lifeline. In 1985, Ron was named the Senior Art Director of Ogilvy & Mather Promotions, Los Angeles, working with clients such as American Express, Mattel, Cal Fed and Baskin Robbins, to name a few. These past experiences have been quite beneficial to Ron's career since he now creates and manages Non-tourist Sportswear and owns and operates 1254 Advertising, a full service agency in Laguna Beach specializing in package design. Thanks to the galleries, collectors and businesses whose unwavering support has enabled the realization of this exceptional artist's career. He looks forward to various showings planned throughout south Orange County in the coming months. Ron Chespak Studios may be reached by calling (714)497-8424. |
